President’s Message from Jane Ramee
GSQA represents the four states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle. We aim to foster knowledge and participation in all aspects of quilting with our annual teaching Seminar in March, our biennial Quilt Show in even years, and with our traveling Circuit Teacher Program. Quarterly general meetings are held at alternating sites in January, April, July, and October. The meetings include a special afternoon program, member show and tell, followed by an optional Pursuit of Excellence class. Our quarterly publication “Quilt Talk” is mailed to all members and is available on this website. Being a member of GSQA has nurtured my
creativity, given me lifelong friends, and made me a better quilter. As
GSQA celebrates 25 years of quilting, I look forward to celebrating and
sharing this experience with each and every one of you! |

Jane Ramee has spearheaded a drive to aid the quilters who lost so much in the devastating floods this summer. She has encouraged GSQA members to offer their help with quilting supplies and equipment, much as quilters from many other states generously sent supplies and equipment to Louisiana quilters after our disasters. To see how you can help in this national effort to provide a measure of comfort and caring to the victims, click here.

At the March 13, 2008 meeting of the Krotz Springs Quilters’ Guild, members made a special presentation to the families of three local fallen soldiers. In gratitude for their service and sacrifice, handcrafted quilts made by Guild members were presented to the families of Jonathan Ray Reed (Krotz Springs), Jarred S. Fontenot (Port Barre) and Craig Davis (Opelousas). Terry Graham, Louisiana contact for the National effort of the Home of the Brave Quilts Project, presented each family with a quilt along with history of the project. These quilts are replicas based on the Civil War U.S. Sanitary Commission Quilts which measured 48” X 84”. For more information on the Home of the Brave Quilt Project and others honoring our troops, go to their website: www:homeofthebravequilts.com.
