The Big Frame Up!:

This class is for all the people that still love to hand quilt or want to machine quilt their own quilt.  It is a fast way to get your quilt together so you can sit in the recliner, visit with someone, watch TV, listen to music and quilt.  A pattern will be given for the movable frames.  Dorothy will bring her frames to use to put in the frame and baste it, learning all the steps as you go.  Also learn how to spray baste a wall hanging or small quilt.  Guild members will choose a member’s top to be used in this class.  GSQA WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR TO QUILT.

Abstract Landscapes
Use a picture of your choice to develop an abstract landscape.  You will free-hand draw your own and learn how to transfer it to fabric.  This workshop/class will develop your skills using the machine to sew curves.  Batiks or hand dyed fabric work well. One option is to fracture the landscape in several places (which is to cut the landscape after it is pieced and sew back together again), which adds interest to your work.

Race with a Snail:
Three techniques are taught in this class: Snail’s Trail, Afghani Flying Geese and Waves. Snail’s Trail and Afghani Flying Geese use foundation piecing to speed up the process and increase accuracy. Learn ways to place the traditional
Snail’s Trail. Afghani Flying Geese is a different way to work with this popular pattern. Waves add a new interest to your work. All the techniques may be used in quilts or garments

Flowers Go South:
In this hands- on class students will learn how to make folded flowers. You will also learn how to enhance these flowers by adding  paints, beads, and pearls.

In addition to flowers, you will learn to make yo-yos and three-dimensional leaves.  Used as adornment on a garment, these flowers can transform something simple into something stunning.

 KITS ARE AVAILABLE: $20

Borders and Bindings
Gain confidence and skill as you learn the correct way to add borders to your quilts. Learn how to square up your blocks and quilts. Suggestions will be given as to the width of sashing and the borders, and how many borders you should add.  Borders may be added in class. Then practice cutting bias and applying it to the quilted sample.
