Chenille Rug:

In this fun class you will be able to complete a soft chenille rug with or without silk flowers and leaves to place by a bed, in a bath, at the foot of a chair or anywhere you want to provide a cozy accent.  New techniques will be shared to make your chenille project quick and easy.  Patter required ($8.00).  You may purchase soft silk flowers and disassemble prior to class or you may order a kit of prepared assorted flower petals and leaves for $10.00.

Nature’s Beauty:

Capture the beauty of leaves collected from nature to embellish a simple foundation pieced background using the Judy Simmons technique.  Images of leaves transferred to image paper will be available for purchase in class.  These images will be transferred to fabric by the students during class to be applied as embellishments to the foundation pieced background.  The edges of the leaves will be “burned” to add further dimension and interest.  No pattern required but there is a nominal fee of $3 per transfer sheet to cover the cost of photocopying leaves and transferring them to the image transfer sheet.  The morning session will cover simple foundation piecing and the afternoon will be spent playing with transferring the leaves to fabric.

Cotton Theory:

Learn this popular “quilt as you go” technique from a Certified Cotton Theory instructor.  You will make a table runner in the really fun class.  We will discuss sandwiching and quilting individual “logs” for the piece, and connecting the logs using the fold and finish method created by Betty Cotton.   Upon completion of your project, you will have a quilted, reversible table runner.  Pattern is required ($10.00) Kit optional but encouraged ($45.00).

Stained Glass Magnolia:

Using fusible bias tape, take the stained glass technique to the next level with this elegant magnolia pattern.  The pieces are large, and the use of different fabrics for the petals results in a beautiful, realistic magnolia with depth and dimension.  We will discuss all of the basics of stained glass appliqué, including different types of fusible web, marking techniques (or not), and the use of a twin needle to sew the bias tape, thereby quilting the project as you sew.  Pattern required ($10.00).  An optional kit that includes background fabric and all fabric required to complete the top may be purchased.

Thread Painting:

The student will learn how to embellish appliqué with thread painting.  Using fusible appliqué as a foundation, we will paint with thread to enhance the project, creating depth and dimension to the appliqué.  The first half of the class will be devoted to practicing free-motion techniques on 3 projects.  Next, each student will thread paint a simple piece designed by the student using appliqué shapes provided by the teacher.  A required supply fee of $15.00 per student covers the cost of 3 fabric kits which includes fusible web, 2 stabilizers and the use of various decorative threads.
